Quick Fixes For Summer Hair Problems

Who doesn’t like to let their hair down and play wind tease? Though we love the fresh and shiny hair, maybe the heat doesn’t. Summers always leave your hair looking sticky and lifeless.

Here are some quick fixes for the summer hair problems:

  • Greasy sweaty hair?

Due to the heat the scalp sweats. The natural oil called sebum flows all over your scalp making it look greasy. And when on days you don’t wash your hair, it might be a disaster.

Here’s the fix. Sprinkle some hair powder or baby powder on to the scalp. The powder will absorb the excess oil making it look a lot less greasy and also add some volume. Brush off the excess powder and you are ready to go. If the powder makes your hair look dull you can always trust the hairspray. A shot of hairspray and you are ready to shine and you don’t need to apply oil.

To keep your hair shiny, it must be hydrated. The amount of oil or sebum produced by the oil glands differ from person to person, it may be high sometimes which is the main cause of oily hair.

You should avoid washing your hair quite often because regular washing causes the oil glands to produce more oil to replace the one being washed away. Sounds contradictory, doesn’t it? And even when you shampoo, don’t scrub the scalp vigorously, it causes more oil production and also causes frizz.

Here is a hair mask you could use to take full control of your greasy hair:

Egg white and lemon juice:

Both of these are easily available in the kitchen. The lemon juice contains a high level of vitamin C which effectively controls the excess oil on the hair. The egg white helps to balance the moisture, keeping it shiny and hydrated.

You need to take the egg white from 1 egg and mix it with the lemon juice extracted from one lemon. Apply the mixture onto the hair for 30 minutes and rinse off to discover hydrated, fresh and shiny hair.


  • Itchy scalp?

The burning heat causes the scalp to become resulting in itchiness and causes great discomfort. Itchiness happens because of dryness so always keep your hair moisturized.

You can go for a natural hair mask of banana and honey easily available in your kitchen. Just blend a banana with 3 teaspoons honey and apply the paste onto your hair including the scalp. Rinse off after an hour half. The banana will make the hair shinier while money would restore the moisture.

Always use lukewarm or cold water on your scalp because the hot water irritates the sensitive scalp. Also dry out your hair naturally and avoid using too much of hot hair dryers.

Oil your hair at least twice a week. Heat coconut oil with red or white hibiscus flowers, neem, and amla. Whenever you have too much itching massage the scalp with the prepared oil and have a head bath.

Before washing the hair, you could also apply grinded fenugreek paste on the scalp for 10 minutes. This results in zero itchiness and also fenugreek acts as a natural moisturizer.

Do not refrigerate the paste once made.



  • Dry lifeless hair?

No matter how much we pamper our hair using all those expensive hair care products, it soon gets back to its dull and lifeless state. This is mostly a problem in the summers due to the heat and insufficient hydration. Mother nature is always there with a sea of remedies that could get back the shine, the volume and strength of the hair.


Yogurt and coconut oil hair pack:

The dairy products such as curd and yogurt help in removing the chemicals and toxins from the hair strands and the scalp. It moisturizes and closes the open cuticles and gives it a soft and silky feel. Coconut oil works better than any synthetic conditioner available in the market. It increases the capacity for moisture retention. The lauric acid present in the coconut oil is an effective hair protein that rejuvenates the damaged hair.

Take a cup of yogurt and mix it with 3 tablespoons of coconut oil. Apply the mixture to the hair and scalp evenly. Let it stay for 2 hours and wash off.


Love your conditioner. As the sun in drying out your hair make sure to restore the moisture with your conditioner. You can also apply aloe Vera gel before washing your hair. The medicinal effects of the so loved aloe Vera sap works wonder. It will naturally clean and moisturize your hair.


  • Chlorine hair?

No doubt summers are meant for the dips in the pool but the chlorine can damage your hair causing it to turn green. Chlorine is, in general, a disinfectant that is used in the pool to break down and remove dirt, oil, and bacteria. Stripping the natural oil from the hair causes drying and increased porosity.

Here are a few things you can do immediately before and after you hit the pool to protect your cascades from chlorine:

  • Before you enter the pool, rinse your hair with clean tap water to saturate the hair. Your hair is like a sponge if you saturate your hair with clean water it will not be able to absorb the chlorinated water.
  • Rinse thoroughly after you exit from the pool and shampoo immediately to remove all the chlorine.
  • Deep condition your hair. Coconut oil is a godsend for repairing damaged hair.


Wash your hair with baking powder or you could always trust the egg mask. Beat an egg and apply it over your hair and scalp. Rinse off well after 30 minutes.


  • Bad hair days?

The time when no matter you do your hair won’t just listen to you. We all have bad hair days during the summers. Need to worry not.

  • Just gather up all of your hair into a bun. It looks so sleek and is so in trend. No one notices the bad hair. Also, it keeps hair away from the neck so you don’t feel too hot.
  • Braid your hair. We all love braids not only they cover up the bad hair day but look just so cute and adorable. You could just knot a simple braid or go for the French plait.
  • Embrace the frizz and befriend it. Just put your hair in a frizzy messy bun and rock it with confidence
  • High ponytail always a rescue on such days. Just grab all of the hair and secure it with a rubber band.


  • Damaged hair?

Rough, dull and split ends are really heartbreaking and it is not easy to avoid them when you treat your hair like a science lab experiment. All those styling and chemicals just draw out the moisture cause breakage and leave a frizzy and messy nest.

Vinegar egg conditioning can help restore your damaged hair

Start with 2-3 egg yolks and whisk it thoroughly with 4 tablespoon vinegar, 3 tablespoon lemon juice. You can also add honey and coconut oil.

Take the paste and apply it evenly on the hair and scalp and rinse off after 30 minutes.

Egg acts as a natural conditioner and induces shine. Vinegar helps in treatment for hair loss.


 Strawberries and Aloe Vera gel help repair dry and damaged hair. Try this hair mask which is good enough to eat. Mash few strawberries to make a smooth paste. Leave on the hair for 30 minutes before washing. The seeds exfoliate while the acids and vitamins help restore hair.


  • Frizzy hair?

We absolutely love summer and the heat that comes with it but sometimes the humid air manifests frizziness.

The apple cider vinegar rinse works wonders for your frizz.

After shampooing, pour the vinegar over all your hair and rinse after 3 minutes with cool water and then condition them as you normally would.

When you come out of the shower dry your hair with a soft cotton t-shirt instead of a harsh towel.

Let your hair naturally dry before blow drying it.

 Apply some hair serum before styling your hair. You can buy hair serum from the market or just make one at home!!!!!

Mix Aloe Vera gel to a little warm water to get the consistency of the serum. Add a few drops of coconut oil to this mixture and your serum is ready.

Resist the urge to run your fingers through your hair. The more you mess with it the more mess you create. Sometimes just leave it alone.
