Love Long Hair? Here Are A Few Tips That Will Boost Your Hair Growth!

Love Long Hair?

Did you know:

Humans are born with all the hair follicles that we will ever have in our lifetime! And there are about 100,000 follicles on our scalp? However, as we age, the hair follicles lose their capacity to grow hair. That is when thinning of hair or baldness occurs.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, our hair grows about 1/2th inch every month. That means your hair can produce about 6 inches at the end of a year. However, as per AAD, it is completely normal to lose 50-100 hairs a day.

How Does Hair Grow?

Hair growth is majorly dependent on the genetic build-up of an individual. However, several other factors play a significant role in the development of the hair. Let’s find out what different things can impact hair growth and how it can grow faster.

1. Say Yes to Protein!

A well-balanced diet is essential for the optimal health of your hair. A restrictive diet can lack the required ingredients needed for hair growth.

The deficiency of protein in your diet can aggravate hair loss and lead to stunted hair growth.

Adequate protein in your daily diet helps in improving the health of your hair and boosts hair growth. It is recommended to take at least 50g of protein in your diet every day for optimal hair growth. Protein or keratin treatment has also been proven to boost hair growth.

2. Look for Caffeine!

Caffeine can easily give you an instant energy boost and help improve your hair's health. Caffeine helps promote hair growth and is recently being incorporated into hair care products. In a 2014 study, it was found that caffeine-infused products might stimulate hair growth.

In another small scale study, it was found that caffeine can help in stimulating new hair growth in both males & females suffering from androgenic alopecia.

3. Seek the Help of Essential Oils!

Different essential oils can give your hair a refreshing smell and help promote hair growth. According to a study, daily administration of 400mg capsules of pumpkin seed oil can increase men's hair growth. It was found that there was a 40% increase in hair growth after 24 weeks.

Another study demonstrated that peppermint oil could promote hair growth without any toxic effect.

4. Bring In Some Nutrients!

Vitamins & nutrients play an important role in promoting hair growth. Deficiency in those essential elements can cause untimely hair loss. These nutrients are:

  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin E
  • Biotin
  • Zinc
  • Iron
  • Omega-3 & Omega-6

Incorporating these nutrients helps in facilitating hair growth. A study suggests that zinc deficiency plays a crucial role in hair loss.

According to the study, it was found that taking omega-3 and omega-6 supplements for six months can decrease hair loss and promote hair growth.

5. Massages Can be Rejuvenating

Scalp massage helps in relieving stress and promotes relaxation. As was seen in a 2016 study, it was found that scalp massage improves hair health. It promotes circulation in the scalp and strengthens the hair follicle. It, in turn, highly reduces hair loss and significantly increases hair growth.

6. Go Naturale

Natural ingredients can work wonders on your hair. They help in nourishing the scalp and strengthen the hair. They are safe to use and do not have any serious adverse effects.

7. Say Hello to Aloe

Aloe Vera has multiple beneficial effects on the hair and scalp and has been used in hair care products for a long time. It can help reduce dandruff, deeply cleanse the scalp-sebum for washing off the excess oil from hair, and repair damaged hair.

It also contains Vit A, Vit C, Vit E, Vitamin B12, and folic acid. It helps in nourishing the scalp, which in turn strengthens the hair follicles and reduces hair fall.

It has also been said that aloe vera can promote hair growth as it makes the scalp healthier. However, there is not much scientific proof or evidence that aloe vera can help in faster hair growth.

You can use raw aloe vera gel on your scalp as a home remedy for hair growth or can also use aloe vera infused shampoo or conditioner

8. The Age-old Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has been in use for hair care for centuries. It has fatty acids like lauric acid, which helps to bind the protein to the hair. It helps in strengthening the hair roots as well as the hair strands and reduces hair breakage.

Coconut oil also helps in preventing fungal infections and reduces dandruff. It has antioxidant properties too, which have some influence on hair growth. Though there has not been much clinical study to prove the claim, massaging coconut oil on the scalp might stimulate hair growth.

9. Get Familiar with Viviscal

Viviscal is a hair growth supplement that is generally used by people suffering from hair thinning. They come as capsules which promote hair growth. Viviscal contains a marine complex known as AminoMar C, which has several vitamins, minerals, shark cartilage, and mollusk powder.

Lemon oil is also said to be a great home remedy that affects the health of your hair. It can improve hair quality naturally, condition your hair, and encourage hair growth. In an in vitro & in vivo animal study, it was found that citrus oil has a remarkable effect on boosting hair growth.

14. Bring a Li’l Ginseng

A 2018 study found that ginseng supplements could promote finite hair growth by stimulating the hair follicles in your scalp.

15. Get Some Geranium Oil.

Geranium oil is also claimed to promote hair growth and boost circulation in the scalp. It is often/mostly used in hair masks and can also be infused into your shampoos and conditioners. Geranium oil can also help strengthen the hair roots and strands; it also helps restore moisture in the hair shaft.

Ask your doctor about PRP Therapy

Platelet-rich Plasma Treatment or PRP treatment is an effective treatment for androgenic alopecia. PRP is administered by injecting it in the person’s bloodstream, which accelerates hair growth.

According to a clinical study, 11 patients in the age group 20-40 years of age were injected with platelets in the scalp. It was found that there was high satisfaction among the patients, and they experienced moderate hair regrowth.

Love is in the (H)air!

Most of the factors that regulate hair growth are out of our control. What we can do is take steps to prevent loss of hair or thinning. Using some simple home remedies or taking care of your diet can have incredible effects on hair growth.

You can always go for coconut oil or aloe vera juice or seek some professional therapy and get ready to flaunt your healthy, cascading hair all day long.
